Nick’s heart beats against his chest, his whole body vibrating with every beat it took. This was an important moment, and it had to go smoothly. It was almost time for the sixth inning stretch. “Oh come on! He was clearly out! Can you believe this Nick?” She asks, looking over at him, her eyes shaded under his torn Yankee’s baseball hat. “No, you’re right, he definitely should have been out.” She smiles, victorious that she was right once again. Just as the ump calls time, Nick’s heart leaps. This is it. Nick looks over to the scoreboard just as there was a countdown, “Hey, Al, look at the scoreboard.” Nick says, feeling his palms sweat. His girlfriend looks over at the scoreboard, and instantly her smile drops as she reads the words, “Allison, will you marry Nick?” And suddenly she looks over to Nick who had dropped to his left knee, holding a black velvet box open. He’s drawing attention, there’s no doubt, but he doesn’t care. “Ever since I dared you to play that song in the guitar shop I knew I’d spend the rest of my life with you. I love you, Allison, and I just want you all to myself. So will you marry me?” Tears instantly fall from her eyes as she nods, and Nick’s heart swells as one word falls gracefully from her lips, “Yes.”
